023 Delta 50-760 Filter Upgrade

Filtration elements on most mid-priced dust collectors are bags. The problem withs bags are threefold. First, bags are usually rated at 1 micron or more. Fine dust, the size of particles that could cause respiratory problems over the long term, is usually smaller at around 0.5 microns. Second, bags only have about 25-35 square feet of surface area for filtration which isn’t a lot and the bags themselves are not easy to clean. Third, the effectivity of a bag (1 micron) does not comply with any industry standard. Therefore, any bay can be claimed as 1 micron if the bag is first clogged up to perform the test. I’m not saying this is the case with Delta or any specific mfg. It’s just a possibility as no mfg publishes their testing criteria.

In this video, I’ll be replacing the OEM 1 micron bag with a 0.5 micron pleated filter element with 100 sq ft of filtration surface area from Wynn Environmental. It’s housed in a metal mesh, cleanable by blowing compressed area while installed and will last the lifetime of the dust collector.

Great video! I have the 50-760, and have been using it for a few years. I would like to modify mine, as you did. I have read on Wynn’s website that the filter you have chosen (35A100SBOL) is rated at 1 micron. You stated that it is rated at 0.5 micron in your video. Did I miss something, or am I misinformed?

Again, super job with the podcast. I’ll tune in again!

      Hi Franklin,

Thanks for pointing out that error. You’re correct, the Spun Bond Polyester 35A100SBOL is rated at 1 micron with a 99.995% efficiency. The other 2 (blend paper & nanofiber) are rated at 0.5 microns. Apologies for the confusion.

Can you comment on the model number and exact filter for the Delta from Wynn’s website? Having trouble finding the right one.

Hi. Did you bought the100 Sq. Ft. of 100% Spun Bond Polyester?. Which has been your experience so far with the maintenance of the filter and that could comment on results? I deeply appreciate your valuable comments as well as the excellent video. Greetings from Colombia South America.

Yes, I have the Spun Bond Polyester. So far, it’s worked quite well. There is no fine white dust anywhere near my dust collector. My maintenance involves hitting the sides of the filter with the palm of my hand. Dust just falls off and into the collection bag. You will notice an immediate drop in hydrostatic pressure when first installed. This is just due to the much higher square footage of filter material dropping the back pressure. I don’t notice any loss of suction or dust buildup on tools.

Since I’ve made this video, I have been contacted by Dick Wynn himself letting me know they now offer an Edge Trim Gasket (ETG-55) to solve the sealing issue I had to resolve with weather stripping. Highly recommend it.
